Introduction

Olympic Games play an important role in our lives. Olympiad – is always a holiday. This is a time, when lots of 

countries gather together. As for me I have chosen this theme because sport has always played an important part

in my life. When I was younger I used to go to the swimming pool regularly but unfortunately I didn’t become a famous swimmer. But nevertheless I learnt to swim very well and swimming helped me stay healthy. Besides I am keen on watching sport events on TV and try to follow the main international competitions, especially Olympic Games. That is why I made up my mind to learn more about Summer Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 and tell you about them in as many details as I could. And the question which interested me most of all was: «Why do so many people still remember the Olympic games in Sydney in 2000?» To reveal the theme of my project work in my opinion it is necessary to answer the following questions: 

•        Little about the history of the Olympic Games. What countries participated and what kinds of sports were included in Sydney Olympic Games 2000?

    ·        What were the brightest moments of the Opening Ceremony?

    ·        What were the most important events during the Olympiad?

    ·        How was the Closing Ceremony held?
